WinTick 1.01
WinTick Program
Description
WinTick
is a utility program aiming at synchronizing the PC clock to Universal
Coordinated Time (UTC). It was originally developed for accurate satellite
tracking, running on the taskbar while a NASA-compliant tracking program
(SGP4 or SDP4) is running in the foreground.
WinTick
runs under Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000, or ME. For optimum accuracy, Windows
2000 is recommended. With Windows 2000 as the operating system platform,
and with the most accurate time source (see below supported time sources),
on-going maximum errors versus UTC below 50 ms can be achieved. The
program also includes a calibration mode, which reduces the PC clock
drift by as much as 100 to 1000 times, allowing operation with fewer
resets.

WinTick
accepts four different time sources for reset: GPS receivers (supported
protocols include NMEA 0183 GPRMC sentence, Garmin PVT, Garmin Text
Out), HF/LF receivers (Heath GC-1000, SpectraCom, Netcom, TrueTime,
Traconex), the Internet SNTP protocol (a database of approximately 100
SNTP servers is included), and the U.S. Automated Computer Time Service
(ACTS) telephone system.
Finally,
WinTick provides an audio output through the computer sound board, mimicking
the ticking schemes of 14 different time dissemination radio stations
in the world. This provides capability of calibrating for residual offsets.
Instructions
for Download and Setup
Step 1: WinTick comes with
a comprehensive 40 page User's manual in PDF format. You will need the
Adobe Acrobat Reader, version 3, 4 or 5 to view and print the manual.
If the Acrobat Reader is not already installed on your computer, click
here for a free download from the Adobe Web Site.
Step 2:
Click here to initiate a free download of
WinTick Rev 1.01 (2.9 Mb). Select "Save to Disk" at the download
Wizard prompt. Make a note of the download directory on your computer
(will be Desktop on most machines).
Step 3:
When the download is complete, start Windows Explorer, change to the
download directory as noted above, and double-click on the file wintickd.exe.
This is a self-extracting file, which will extract itself in the directory
c:\windows\temp.
Step 4:
Change to the c:\windows\temp directory, and double-click on the file
setup.exe. Follow the Install Wizard instructions. This will install
WinTick on your machine in the directory c:\program files\wintick. The
User's manual will be available there in addition to all installed program
and support files.
Step 5:
Finally, to finish the setup of WinTick on your machine, that is to
install the proper time sources, calibrate the computer clock, etc...,
follow the instructions given in the User's manual.
Attention Wintick Rev 1.00 Users:
Patch Rev
1.00 to Rev 1.01 is available. If you already have Wintick Rev 1.00
installed on your system, you can download patch100to101.exe by Clicking
here .This will bring your installed Rev 1.00 to 1.01 status, without
changing your setups. The new revision fixes non-functionalities under
non-English language Windows Locales. Download the patch, which is a
self-extracting file. To extract the file, double-click on it, which
will provide a new WINTICK.EXE. Select your working Wintick directory
(generally c:\Program Files\Wintick) in the UNZIP TO dialog box.
